The tour will take you to the most memorable places devoted to World War II.
Located in a historic place, the panorama-museum ‘Battle of Stalingrad’ consists of 8 exhibition halls that are home to more than 3500 exhibits. The largest panorama in Russia shows the final stage of the Battle of Stalingrad, thus, conveying heroism of Soviet soldiers. It was complete only in 1982, however, first sketches were made in 1948 followed by years of tedious work. Except for this, the museum is home to the exposition of Soviet military equipment.
Another museum object is a destroyed mill standing next to the museum building. The idea of this architectural complex is to show war and peace next to each other. The ruined mill has become a symbol of fierce fights that took place in Stalingrad and for that reason was kept as a memory for future generations.
One more site is a 4-storey apartment building in the center of Volgograd. In this building a group of Soviet defenders under the command of senior sergeant Y.F. Pavlov and Senior Lieutenant I.F. Afanasyev were under siege for a period of 58 days. Next to this building, there was one more which was also under siege but was destroyed. Today this place is known as Pavlov's House.
