This full-day excursion to the Cordillera de Mérida allows an impressive perception of the Páramo ecosystem in the Andes mountains. It is designed for anyone who wants to know the beauty of the Venezuelan highlands.
In the morning, we will leave from Mérida and drive through the Andean towns of Tabay, Mucurubá and Mucuchíes, until we reach Lake Mucubají. From there, we will start the walk to Laguna Negra, at an altitude of more than 3000 meters, with an approximate duration of 2 hours. At the top, we will see the Frailejones ( Espeletia Schultzii ), a typical plant of the Páramos, and we will visit the “Mifafi” biological station. This refuge cares for Condors that have been injured to be returned to the wild.
We will also drive along the highest pass in Venezuela, Pico El Águila (4100 meters), during which we will enjoy a fantastic mountain panorama.
We will be back in Merida at the end of the afternoon.
