The Hermitage possesses one of the most impressive and extensive art collections in the world, which is constantly growing and the museum keeps acquiring new premises for it. Several years ago the General Staff Building on the opposite side of the Palace Square was restored and rebuilt as a part of the museum and it now houses probably the most extensive and certainly the most expensive collection of Impressionists and Post-Impressionists in the world together with other masterpieces.
On this tour you will first explore the major collections of all the buildings of the museum. We will start with the Winter Palace with the luxurious imperial interiors and the Gallery of the Heroes of the War with Napoleon, and then proceed to the other Hermitage buildings that now house the masterpieces from the Western European Art Collection (Da Vinci, Rafael, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck) and the Collection of Antiquities that includes not only Ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian works but also priceless decorative items from the Far East, Middle Asia, Caucasus and China.
After that you will have one-hour break clear your mind a bit before continuing your acquaintance with the other part of the collection located in the General Staff Building. We will give you the recommendations on the lunch venues near the Hermitage so that you can try modern style Russian cuisine in one of the trendн city restaurants of the neighborhood. Its main highlights are priceless works of Impressionists and Post-Impressionists (Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso and others) and Carl Fabergé Memorial Rooms.
